Track Nigeria Post shipments

Nigeria's postal history stems from the 19th century. The British Colonial Masters founded the first post office in 1852. The first post office in Northern Nigeria was set up at Lokoja in 1899. While delivery was originally the center of commerce, British postal orders were sold and encashed at post offices in the District Commissioners headquarters from 1907. AirMail Internal flights began in 1931. By 1906, 27 post offices had been functioning and 176 post offices, ten post offices, and 1000 postal businesses were in operation by the time of independence in 1960. The position was managed independently along with Telecommunications as a government agency. Postal facilities and services were thereafter expanded in leaps and bounds. By Decree No. 22 of 1966, the Federal government has taken the department as a quasi-commercial organization to make it more efficient and responsive to public requirements. With the formation of Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) on 1 January 1985, the Nigeria Postal Service Department came into existence. NITEL was formed from the merging of the telecommunications branch of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications of old Nigeria External Telecommunications Limited (NET). By promulgating Decree No 18 of 1987, NIPOST became a Department of Extra-Ministerial Affairs. The NMRN was started on June 1st, 2000, and was selected as the primary center for national mail delivery by the former President and Chief of the Armed Forces, Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos, and Abuja. A total of 7 important national routes are created with at least three vehicles each, such that one vehicle runs daily from either end of the route, while the third one serves as a backup in case of maintenance or failure. The truck picks up and drops mail bags from either end of the trip at the main cities along the routes. The impact has been amazing thus far. It allowed NIPOST to accomplish the following delivery objectives: 24 hours-intracity 48 hours-intercity 72 hours nationwide.
