The Senegal Post is the government-owned postal service provider in Senegal. Senegal Post is part of the Universal Postal Union. 1879 is the earliest year in which the country's postal system was modeled on that of France. The postal service reached its peak in the 1900s. Telegraph lines covered practically the entire colony, connecting the several regional cities. Mail services were provided through land, sea, and river transport. They had long travelled between settlements on foot, having no access to a river, seashore, or train.
