The Somali Postal Service is Somalia's national postal service. It is part of the Federal Government of Somalia's Ministry of Information, Post, and Telecommunications. The postal administration used to send and receive mail and parcel from numerous local and foreign locations, but it discontinued operations in 1991. Later, on November 1, 2013, the Somali Post restarted its operations. Abdullahi Elmashe Hersi, Somalia's Minister of Information, Post, and Telecommunications indicated in December 2012 that the new Federal Government of Somalia intends to revive the Somali Postal Service in 2013. International postal service to Somalia restarted on November 1, 2013. The United Nations Postal Union is currently aiding the Somali Postal Service is increasing its capability.
