The SVG Postal Corporation was founded on 1 October 2003 by the Act of Parliament No 17 of 2003. As the official state postal administration, SVG Post replaced the general postal office and began operating effectively on 16 October 2003 with the transfer of the General Post Office from its temporary position on Paul's Avenue to the newly-renovated offices on the ground floor of the Halifax street, Kingstown.
